Chile

Chile by Carrie Mariko Williams

Outside of Cafe Colibri in Las Vegas, New Mexico hang two chile ristras. After heavy hail and wind last spring its seeds were tossed to the ground. One day in September we were delighted to see a very healthy chile plant growing on its own out of the wall. We hope it blooms again this summer.

Carrie Mariko Williams is an accomplished oil painter who studied at a classical atelier in Seattle. Before pursuing her art career, she was an anthropologist in South Asia. After meeting her husband, while living in the funk, grit and grime of the Oregon Coast her brushstrokes became loose, thick, and abstract. She and her husband relocated to Las Vegas to revive the old Ludi’s Market and Bakery into a space for the arts.
